#5: Jolly Rogers A long time favorite destination for visitors to Ocean City is Jolly Rogers Amusement Park. Whether you want to ride around on the go-kart tracks at Speedworld, enjoy a spirited game of mini golf, or splash around on the waterslides at Splash Mountain, there is fun for everyone. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2014 and continue to add to their already extensive parks.
#4: OC Air Show The only reason this is #4 on the list and not #1 is because of the fact that it is not all of June, but only the 15th and 16th. The Ocean City Air Show is one of the top events of the summer and if you are lucky enough to be in town on those dates it is a must see. It is free to watch from the boardwalk or the majority of the beach, but if you would rather spend a little money and enjoy one of the prime tent locations you are welcome to do that as well. Each year features a different line up of planes and aerial displays, and in 2019 the headline act is the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. From their site: “Their goal is to inspire a culture of excellence and service to country through their flight performances and community outreach.”
#3: Water Sports and Activities There are quite a few options for the adventure seekers in terms of watersports in Ocean City MD. Two of the top companies based on our feedback are Odyssea Watersports and Paradise Watersports. Their options range from renting a boat, to parasailing, to jet skis. Not an expert? No problem! They offer on-site licensing, safety equipment, and insurance.
#2: Play it Safe events Play it Safe is an organization governed by the Ocean City Drug & Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee, Inc. They work with various partners to provide fun, safe, drug/alcohol free events for graduates visiting Ocean City. Last year they had 42 FREE planned events, including karaoke, indoor miniature golf, paddle boarding, kayaking, midnight bowling, basketball, outdoor miniature golf, volleyball, Splash Mountain Water Sports Park, tennis, laser tag, dance party, pizza eating contests, dodgeball and 2 tye dye T-shirt design events. They also offer a wristband for purchase that can be used to ride the bus in Ocean City at a greatly reduced rate, well worth the investment if you plan on cruising around town.
#1: Beach and Boardwalk The Ocean City beaches stretch for over 10 miles, with the boardwalk covering about 3 of those. The beach is free, so there is no hassle or dealing with beach passes. The beach is open to the public from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. while the Ocean City Beach Patrol is on duty during the summer between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The boardwalk has so much to offer that I couldn’t possibly get into it all, but between the shops, restaurants, street performers, and arcades there is something for everyone. It is home to the infamous Thrasher’s Fries; using the highest quality potatoes to make the most delicious cup of fries in Ocean City. The line has been known to reach back to Trimper’s Rides due to popularity. Trimper’s Rides provides rides for families, kiddies, and thrill seekers. One of their famous rides is the “Tidal Wave”. It was added in 1985 and has been a favorite for years. The park is smoke free, as is the boardwalk, except for designated areas.
